Alterations in infant gut microbiome composition and metabolism after exposure to glyphosate and Roundup and/or a spore-based formulation using the SHIME technology

Abstract Despite extensive research into the toxicology of herbicide glyphosate, there are still major unknowns regarding its effects on human gut microbiome. We describe glyphosate and a Roundup glyphosate-based infant microbiota using SHIME technology. culture was undertaken in presence concentration 100-mg/L same equivalent Roundup. to lesser extent caused an increase fermentation activity, resulting acidification microbial environment. This also reflected by lactate acetate production concomitant decrease levels propionate, valerate, caproate butyrate. Ammonium reflecting proteolytic activities increased exposure. Global metabolomics revealed large-scale disturbances, including abundance long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids. Changes bacterial composition measured qPCR 16S rRNA suggested that lactobacilli had their growth stimulated as result microenvironment acidification. Co-treatment with spore-based probiotic formulation MegaSporeBiotic reverted some changes short-chain acid levels. Altogether, our results suggest can exert microbiota.
